Breelynn felt Milo move beside her in bed. It was still dark, the glow of the moon the only light source. The bed dipped down on the side as he sat up. Breelynn yawned and snapped her eyes open, laying very still, as if waiting to see what he would do next.
He better not be leaving again, she thought feeling her cheeks grow warm with anger.
That sneaky bastard, Breelynn thought as she saw him sneaking out of the room, tip toeing so he wouldn’t get caught.
Breelynn did a quick roll and a jump and stood pointing a finger at him in accusation.
“What the hell Milo.” She growled, in what Milo usually called her ‘Excorsist voice.”
Milo froze. He was caught.
“I’m just going to the bathroom, geez psycho.” He said with his hands up in surrender.
“That’s bullshit and you know it Milo.”
“What the hell is going on with you?” She demanded. “You come over in the dead of night and leave in the morning like i’m some kind of dirty little secret.” She was really worked up now. She could feel her anger building.
“I’m good enough to have sex with I take it.” She spat. “But not good enough to have you actually stick around until morning.”
“Bree…” Milo said moving in to touch her. She put her hands on her hips and fixed him with a glare and moved away from him.
“Don’t touch me.” She growled. Excorsist voice again. “Are you cheating on me again Milo.” She asked quietly trying to look him in the eye.
Milo bristled. “Of course not!” He said a bit too loudly giving Bree all the info she needed. She closed her eyes before he could see her tears.
“Just go…”She said tiredly, rubbing her eyes which suddenly felt hot and grainy.
Breelynn kept her eyes closed as she heard Milo leave without bothering to get changed out of his pajamas.
Nothing could calm Breelynn down. She tried painting, jogging. Cleaning her apartment. She was going stir crazy and felt that if she didn’t leave the house soon, she was going to go crazy. She grabbed her cell and dialed a familiar number.
“Cara!” Breelynn said when her friend answered. “Its Bree. What are you up too today?” She asked.
“Well…” Cara began sounding a little weird.
“Well whatever you got going on cancel. We are going out.” Breelynn was not going to take no for an answer.
“I..” Cara began again.
“Pffft.” Breelynn said laughing. “I know you don’t work today, there is no excuse. Your going. Meet me at Club Del Ray at noon.”
In the cab, Breelynn tried to stay positive and not think about Milo, which was proving hard to do. As the taxi drove towards the club, she couldn’t help wonder where Milo was, and who he was with. Jealousy gnawed at her gut. Jealousy, such an ugly horrible feeling. There was nothing she hated worse then jealousy, the feeling of being second fiddle to anyone just didn’t set well with her.
Club Del Ray was a private club which Cara was a member of, Breelynn was not. It was one of her favorite places to go, as the drinks were some of the best in town, and the pool was one of the best!
Cara was already waiting for Breelynn at the entrance, wearing a cute bright patterned sundress that fit her like a glove. Cara came from money, and she always dressed like a million bucks. Breelynn didn’t have a clothes budget like Cara did, but she rocked what she had, and knew she looked hot.
Breelynn swallowed her jealousy and leaned in to give her best friend a big hug. She was determined to have fun today, to just let loose and forget her troubles!
Cara walked in like she owned the place, she had the confident walk of someone who belonged. Still feeling frazzled from her fight with Milo this morning, Breelynn took a deep breath and stood tall, and made herself follow her friend into the club.
“Karoke is for losers!” Cara laughed following Breelynn up to the stage.
“Common!” Breelynn laughed. “That may be so, but it will be fun.”
On stage Breelynn belted out a popular pop song she knew by heart. She couldn’t sing, and probably sounded like a cow being slaughtered, but it was fun!
“Sing it Cara!” Breelynn laughed pointing at her friend. Cara’s singing was even worse then Breelynn’s. They both left the stage laughing so hard tears streamed from there eyes!
“Do you know whats up with Milo?” Breelynn asked out of the blue. After singing there hearts out like rock stairs they were thirsty and sat down at the bar. Cara froze looking nervous. “I know you guys are friends and I don’t want to put you in a hard spot.” Breelynn apologized. She took a deep breath and went on. “He hasn’t been himself lately. He’s been drinking a lot more then usual, and sneaking out of my apartment in the middle of the night before I wake up.” She looked down at her hands in her lap. “Is he cheating on me?” She asked.
Cara was quiet, an unreadable look on her face. Probably feels like she is being unfair to Milo. Breelynn thought. Cara was the one who introduced Milo to Breelynn back in high school, they had been good friends since.
“I think you should just forget about Milo.” She turned and signaled to the bar tender. The bar tender refilled Cara’s drink and turned to Breelynn.
“None for me thanks.” She said, she opened her mouth to continue on with the conversation before Cara butted in.
“Lets go to the pool, its hotter then satan’s balls in here!” She jumped up after downing her drink.
It did feel nice outside, and quiet, as everyone was still partying inside. She leaned back in the lounge chair and let out a sigh of relaxation. The breeze felt like heaven as it caressed her skin. She felt some of her anxiety about Milo slip away. She just didn’t want to think about Milo right now.
The breeze must have energized her spirit. She jumped up and shrugged out of her bathing suit standing there naked. Breelynn had always been a little bit of a daredevil and figured skinny dipping sounded like it could be fun, like something the old carefree wild Bree would do. She missed that part of herself!
The cool water felt amazing on her skin. Cara stood up by the pool and glared at Breelynn.
“Put your suit back on.” She hissed. “You’re going to get us banned from the club.” Her eyes were wide as she looked around. She tossed the swimsuit to Breelynn in the water. “I’m leaving. I have somewhere to be.” Cara said glaring at Bree.
Breelynn watched Cara go. She grabbed her suit that was floating on the surface of the water and pulled it on. Well if Cara was out of here, then Breelynn wasn’t going to stay alone. She pulled on her dress over her wet bathing suit and hailed a taxi.
I know I locked my door. Breelynn thought as she let herself into her apartment, finding out it was already unlocked. She frowned, and wished she had a can of mace.
To her shock Milo was sitting on the couch with a beer in hand. “What the hell are you doing here.” She said coldly, she crossed her hands over her chest and glared at him.
“Too see you baby.” He stood up on shaky legs, and started to head toward her.
“Don’t touch me!” She yelled at him and gave him a little shove backward, she didn’t want to be touched! She was still livid from earlier!
“What the hell.” He yelled back. “I come over to see my favorite girl, and this is the thanks I get?” He hiccupped. “You’re so mean to me.”
“You’re drunk Milo.” She balled up her fists resisting the urge to punch him in the face. “Go home, get sober and for pete’s sake, take a shower will ya?” She pointed towards the door.
“You have a shower here…” He leered at her, when he leaned in close she resisted the urge to gag at the strong smell of beer on his breath. “You can hop in with me.” He wagged his eyebrows and stumbled a little, but quickly caught himself.
“I’d rather lick the toilet seat at a truck stop bathroom.” Breelynn said rudely. Milo scowled. He raised his hand like he was going to hit her, and then tripped on his feet as he took a step toward her.
“Get the hell out of my house right now, or I’ll call the cops.” She held up her phone to show him she was serious.
“Alright…alright…” He pouted. “I’m going…” He stumbled out the door, leaving Breelynn shaking in the middle of her living room.
After locking the door and making a mental note to call the locksmith tomorrow, Breelynn sat at the edge of her bed and put her head into her hands. She realized that Milo needed help, and that it was something he had to do on his own, and if Milo refused to get help, then Bree refused to speak to him ever again. Feeling her eyes grow hot with emotion, she let the tears come. She pulled down the blankets and crawled underneath them alone.
