1.12 When moms away…the kids will play…

“Breelynn wake up!” Brennan Gallagher whispered standing over her sisters bed.  When she got no responce, she ripped the blankets back from her sisters sleeping form.

“Ugh. What the hell do you want? Go away!” Breelynn said testily rubbing her eyes.  Her skull was pounding.  Her sisters voice was like nails on a chalk board, making her skin crawl.

“Mom is asking why you aren’t up yet.” Breelynn said wrinking her nose.  “You smell like a distillary.”

Breelynn tried to grab the blanket and pull them back over herself.  “I feel like road kill ran over twice.” She moaned.

Brennan grabbed the blankets preventing Breelynn from getting too comfortable.  She laughed.

“Well thats what you get for coming home drunk, and I suggest if you don’t want to get grounded for the next century, you get your drunk behind into the shower then get it upstairs and have some breakfast before mom comes down the stairs and gets you herself.”

Breelynn stood, shooting her sister one last dirty look, and jumped into the shower.

A shower did little to make her feel better, but at least she didn’t smell like old beer anymore.  She wasn’t hungry by any means, but if she crawled back in bed, her mom would be demanding to know what was wrong.  She climbed up the stairs and into the bright kitchen.  The sun was streaming in making her eyes tear up.  “Mornin’ mom.” she mumbled keeping her bloodshot eyes down on the floor.

“How was bowling last night?” Lucy asked her kids.  Brennan looked up from her book.

“Oh it was fun.” She shot a quick look at her sister.  Breelynn busied herself with trying to keep the waffles down.

“Now you girls remember I wont be home until tomorrow afternoon.  I left you my credit card, its on top of the fridge.  You guys can order a pizza for dinner, but thats it.  I mean it.” She looked directly at Breelynn while saying this.  “Its only for emergencies.”

Breelynn did an inner cheer and thanked her lucky stars.  She had forgotton her mom had a medical conference to go too.  This day, which had started out horribly, was suddenly looking better!

After saying her goodbyes, Lucy climbed into the taxi on her way to Sunset Valley for a medical conference. It would feel good to have a night off to herself, but Lucy worried about her children. Even being away from them for one night filled her with anxeity.

“Brennan.  I have the best idea!” Breelynn said jumping up as soon as there moms taxi pulled away from the curb.   Brennan was filled with dread.  Some of Breelyn’s worst ideas always started with the phrase I have the best idea.

“We are going to throw an awesome party!”

“We’re gonna do what now?” Brennan said wearly.  “I don’t think so.  If mom finds out we are all dead!”

“Quit being lame.” Breelynn pouted. “Mom won’t find out.  I promice.”

Before Brennan could protest Breelynn pulled out her cell phone and started making calls.  This was going to be awesome!

Finally it was party time.  Despite her brother and sister digging in their heels Breelynn was determined to have a wonderful time.

Her guests started to arrive.

Milo Aoki one of the most popular boys at school gave her a little wave.  “Thanks for the invite Gallagher.” He smiled.  Breelynn shivered with excitment.  He was so hot.

The next one to arrive was Shawn Walker.  When she walked in Aaron went beet red and looked down at the floor.

Go say hi. He commanded himself.  He made his feet move in her direction, he felt like the biggest loser alive.

“Hi.” He said lamely.  He tried to smile.

“Hey Aaron, nice party.” Shawn said smiling at him.  Aaron resisted the urge to jump up and down and do a back flip! She knew his name!

The party was in full swing.  Breelynn crossed her arms in satisfaction as she watched everyone gather for pizza.  She felt no guilt for ordering 4 extra large pizza’s on her moms credit card.  She just hoped when the bill came her mom wouldn’t notice she had gotten 4 pizza’s instead of their families usual 2.  Aaron was a big eater.  A growing man, she could blame the extra pizza on him if she had too!

Shawn sat next too Breelynn and they ate there pizza in near silence except when Shawn turned too Breelyn.

“Is your brother seeing anyone?”

Breelynn almost choked. She laughed,  “Aaron? No.”

“Do you think he’d want to go out with me sometime?” Shawn said shyly.

“Seriously?” Breelynn asked suspicially.

“You’re brother is totally hot, don’t sound so surprised.” Shawn laughed.  “I’m so past the bad boy phase of my life. I just want a guy who likes me for me, and not what I look like.”

“Well Aaron’s out on the porch.” Breelynn said.  She gestured with her pizza toward the deck.  “Go get him girl.”

Aaron was outside getting some fresh air away from the noise of the party when he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.  He smelled Shawn’s familure perfume and turned around.

“What are you doing out here all alone?” Shawn asked, smiling at him.  Aaron felt his heart do a back flip.

“Just getting some fresh air.” He said truthfully.

“Mind if I join you?” Shawn asked. Of course he didn’t!

Keeping it cool he smiled “Sure.”

A slow song started to play on the stereo inside.  Aaron felt awkward.  Should he make his move?  Or would she reject him.

“Would you like to dance?” Shawn asked?  Her brown eyes were lumionous in the dark.

“Very much so!” he said truthfully.

“Way to go Aaron!” Breelynn whispered to herself seeing her dorky brother dancing out on the balcony with Shawn.

Inside the party was hopping.  Brennan, ever the buzz kill kept turning down the volume on the stereo to make sure the neighbors wouldn’t complain.  A war with the volume knob began.  Brennan would turn it down, and Breelyn would be right behind her turning it up again.

“I give up!” Brenna screetched, throwing up her hands.  “If this gets back to mom, i’m going to make sure she knows it was you who threw this party.” She stomped down the hall.

“Dance with me Gallagher?” Milo suddenly appeared behind her.  A slow song came on the radio.

Breelynn loved to dance!  All her years her mom forced her into dance classes including ballet aided her now. On the dance floor she was unstoppable!

“How come we’ve never hooked up before?” Milo asked giving her a crooked grin.

“You were always too busy dating skanks.” Breelynn said truthfully.

“Well I’m done with the skanks.” He grinned.

“Oh yea?”

“Yep.” He dipped her.  “Lets go out sometime.”

As the party went on, things started getting out of control the way some large parties tend to get.  A guy Breelynn hardly knew snapped off the handle on the kitchen sink spraying water all over the floor.  Breelynn wanted to hit her head on the wall in frustration.  Her mom was going to kill her!

Everywhere she looked exausted teens were passed out on the floor asleep. This party was getting out of hand!

“Hey Gallagher.” Milo said.  “I gotta get going.  We have school tomorrow and if I’m not in my bed when my parents try to wake me up, I’m toast.  I’ll see you at school in a few hours.”

Breelynn watched him go feeling her heart flutter a little in her chest.  Now she just had to get everyone to wake up and start heading home.

Breelynn went around kicking everyone to wake them up.  They each thanked her for an awesome party as they left.  The sun came up and Breelynn felt exausted.  Brennan came from downstairs and saw the mess in the kitchen.  She fixed the sink, and mopped up the puddle on the floor shooting dirty looks in her sisters direction.

“Thanks for the help.” Brennan said sarcastically.

“No prob.” Breelynn yawned behind her hand wishing she could just skip school today.

“You’re going.” Brennan said reading her sisters mind. “Mom will be home at noon, and if she sees you home she’ll be pissed.”

Still wearing her party clothes Breelynn pulled it together and followed her siblings out to the school bus.  If she was lucky she could catch a little nap before school started.

This was going to be a long day…She stomped down the hall to her first class.

“Don’t ever pull a stunt like that again!” Brennan glared at Breelynn, inbetween classes.  “You’re lucky i fixed the sink and cleaned up the mess.”

“Thank you.” Breelynn said thankfully. She was too tired to argue. That seemed to soften her sister up a little.

“You’re welcome.” She said finally. “Just use your brain a little next time ok?”

“Hey Casanova!” Breelynn said to Aaron.  Aaron had stayed up late as well.  He looked exausted. So unlike him to come to school disheveled and exausted.

“That party was the best idea you’ve ever had.” He said with a dopy love sick smile.

Brennan glared at them.

Breelynn could feel herself nodding off in class around noon.

“Breelynn. Eyes up front.” Her teacher said loudly from the front of the class.

Breelynn snapped her eyes open and forced herself to stay awake.  Milo across the isle winked at her.

“Awesome party.” He whispered.  Breelynn smiled to herself.  It was worth it!

Lucy ran inside eager to see if the house had been destroyed.  At least she didn’t come home to burning rubble!  She had to be thankful for the little things right?  Taking a look around she saw everything in its place.  The credit card was on top of the counter where she left it.   What wonderful children I have.  Lucy thought happily.
